Using Fractional General Counsel is a flexible, cost-effective solution for businesses and nonprofits who need ongoing legal support, without the expense of a full-time, in-house attorney.
Unlike traditional in-house counsel—who is a full-time, salaried employee—fractional general counsel is an independent contractor providing dedicated legal services at a predictable, flat-rate or fixed-price structure.
Dalton Law offers fractional general counsel services, ensuring your organization has regular access to experienced legal counsel while keeping costs manageable. While fractional attorney serve multiple clients, your organization receives a dedicated number of hours per month for legal guidance, risk management, and compliance oversight. Additional services beyond the agreed-upon hours can be arranged at a pre-determined rate.

Ongoing access to legal counsel can help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as grant and contractual obligations.

I've acquired broad experience in a range of practice areas. My background is litigation, but for the past decade I have been helping entrepreneurs start, grow, and protect their businesses, including planning for the next generation of business leaders. My practice specialties include business formation, mergers & acquisitions, contracts, real estate, family office management, and business continuity, litigation management, non-profit and private foundation administration, human resources and employment issues, advertising law, corporate compliance, data privacy/protection, and anti-money laundering compliance.
My wife, Jill and I have 5 children -- 4 daughters and one son. The three oldest are all currently attending college. Extended family gatherings are chaos but pure joy.
Our family philosophy: Be good and do good, then do your best and forget the rest.

I grew up in southern Idaho but have lived in every part of the Gem State. Born in Twin Falls, I graduated from Jerome High School before moving to Moscow to study civil engineering at the University of Idaho. After graduation, I took a job in Boise as Governor Dirk Kempthorne's Special Assistant and Speechwriter. After Law School and a few years at a big law firm in Dallas, TX, I moved to Pocatello while clerking for Judge N. Randy Smith on the 9th Circuit. I've now made my home in Idaho Falls for the past 15 years.
